A practical "how to" guide for middle management

This book steps you through the terminology and methodology of preparing and using budgets in the special case of the Nonprofit organization. It is particularly useful for middle (program) managers - how to deal with the Board of Directors, and so on. The book could use a few more computational examples, but it has excellent worksheets and checklists to simplify the task and keep you on track. It says what it has to say very concisely, which helps you to focus on the tips and pointers. It is really like an annotated workbook, complete with a sample budget. If you have to do this stuff, this book is invaluable.

Contains some decent tips but disappointing overall. Lacks treatment of the issue of restricted funds, essential to non-profit budgeting. Does not provide insight into effective use of spreadsheet programs like Excel which are essential to budget building. Does not show modern methods for calculating overheads like the FTE system. Contains a plethora of forms that can be used in various stages of the budget building process.

Tremendous dramatization from the BBC

If you like getting into the debate between Tarkovsky and Soderbergh versions of the movie, you need to start including this BBC audio version in the mix for greatest adaptation by any medium. The voice acting is superb, the sound effects very sharp and convincing. Most importantly, it stands by itself as a faithful rendering of Lem's novel. Even if you're not an audiophile, if you love sci-fi, you must give this a try. I purchased on Amazon recently and I think it's the finest dramatization of any story in any medium I've purchased in a long time. Worth every minute.

Yet Another Great Production from the BBC

If you like radio dramas AND science fiction, then this is for you! Great performances and a great story. I highly recommend this production. And if you like it, you might want to try BRADBURY THIRTEEN (the best radio adaptations of Ray Bradbury bar none) Bradbury 13 (Dramatized)

It will be hard to follow; I have loved Solaris since I went to see the film in Theatre Clwyd many, many (alas) years ago and it was a wonderful experience for me.
I have always, ever since, watched out for works on this subject and I found most to be done with some care and attention (even the latest film version was a fine, but "hollywood ized"). BBC Solaris radio is a very find adaption of the novel. Well done BBC for showing the world again how it should be done!

I am awestruck at the reviews this horrible retread is getting

I am awestruck at the reviews this horrible retread is getting. Have any of the previous reviewers read anything on entrepreneurship? There is nothing, NOTHING in this book (blog posts and rewriting of previous material) to help any newcomer in starting a business or even developing any ideas for a potential business. If, however, your someone who enjoys making list after list when finishing chapters, this book will keep you writing for at least a couple of hours. I'm stopping now, because I am so frustrated at 'Authors' claiming intelligence (this book is hoping that a small percentage of you will sign up for his 'coaching' program) that they clearly lack. I wish I could have written something positive, but I can't.

Same exact book!

Let me first talk about Mr. Voodgs first book 6 months to 6 Figures. I got the audio book and was obsessed with the content that I bought the paperback as well to delve deeper into materials. 6 months/6 figures is a master piece in my opinion and I highly encourage it to anyone! My expectations for this book weren't high but I was expecting an evolution or progress of ideas put forth by 6 months/ 6 figures.

What we get.....is "6 months to 6 Figures" with different cover art..that's it, copy and paste. Like...80% of the content is virtually identical! it's hard to even give a solid review, this is a straight scam. "The Entrepreneur's Blueprint" is also incredibly misleading title and is nothing but self-growth preaching which is fine, it works as 6 months to 6 figs but nothing about operating a business. If you want a REAL Blueprint read "The Lean Start-up: by eric ries". That's the kinda of real data, real lessons and real truths needed in a "Blueprint" book and Voodg owes it to himself to reconsider the structure to his next book.

Conclusion: Read either 6 months to 6 Figures OR The Entrepreneur's Blueprint. NOT BOTH of them. Getting both, you might as well just buy 2 copies of one of em.

BUT very disappointed that a lot of the ideas from his first book were rehashed in this book, probably 60-80% were rehashed.

Just VERY disappointing because i enjoyed his first book....but not a lot of content that you can fully practice...there were few occasional nuggets., but that's about it.

He talked a lot of giving VALUE to people form his first book; i don't think you will see that in this book..

About the Author

Suzanne Peregoy is Professor Emerita of Education, San Francisco State University, where she coordinated the M.A. and Reading/Language Arts Specialist Credential programs while also teaching courses in language and literacy development. She earned an M.A. in Spanish literature and linguistics from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Her Ph.D. in language and literacy from the University of California, Berkeley, focused on bilingual reading, second language acquisition, and language issues in American Indian education. Previously, Professor Peregoy taught ESL to adults.  She also taught primary grades in a Spanish-English bilingual education program, and directed a multicultural preschool program. Dr. Peregoy was active in writing California’s guidelines for preparing in-service teachers to work with English language learners. She has published articles on bilingual and second language literacy in the Journal of the National Association for Bilingual Education, The Reading Teacher, Canadian Modern Language Review, Educational Issues of Language Minority Students, Hispanic Journal of Behavioral Sciences, and Theory into Practice. Dr. Peregoy is fluent in Spanish.

 

Owen Boyle is Professor Emeritus of Education, San Jose State University, where he coordinated the Bilingual and ESL Program, chaired the Language and Literacy Department, and headed the Reading Specialist Credential and M.A. programs in literacy. At San Jose State Professor Boyle taught courses in second language literacy, language acquisition and reading, multicultural literature, and reading assessment. He received his doctorate at the University of California, where he was Coordinator of the Learning from Text Program and researched and taught students. As Assistant Director of the Bay Area Writing Project (National Writing Project), Owen worked with teachers from all over the world including those from Germany, Panama, Alaska, and California. He served on the California State Superintendent’s panel that developed guidelines for preparing teachers of reading and was instrumental in developing a reading instruction test required for a California multiple subject teaching credential. He has published articles and research in Journal of Educational Issues of Language Minority Students, Hispanic Journal of Behavioral Sciences, Bilingual Research Journal, Journal of the Association of Mexican-American Educators, Journal of College Reading and Learning, The Reading Teacher, and Reading Research and Instruction. He taught elementary and secondary school where he worked with second language learners for 12 years.

 

 

With contributions by Karen Cadiero-Kaplan, Professor at San Diego State University where she chairs the Department of Policy Studies in Language and Cross Cultural Education.  Dr. Cadiero-Kaplan’s publications cover literacy ideologies and practice, English language development, and bilingual education policy and practice. She also has several publications on critical uses of technology for language and literacy development. Her books include Bilingual Education and the Literacy Curriculum (Peter Lang, 2004) and a co-edited book, The Living Work of Teachers: Ideology and Practice (California Association for Bilingual Education, 2006).  In addition to her research, Dr. Cadiero-Kaplan provides state and national leadership in the area of English teaching and language policy. In 2006-2007 she served as President of the California Association of Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (CATESOL) and as a member of the Bilingual Design Team for the California Commission on Teaching Credentialing, advising the commission on standards development for bilingual teacher education.  Dr. Cadiero-Kaplan has worked with lobbyists from various English learner advocacy groups to inform the State Board of Education and the State Assembly on issues related to English learners.

Great Book No Big Changes

The biggest reason I love this book is because it is the same book as the later edition that I needed for school only difference is the chapter name changed a bit but same stuff. What was added was some examples (lack of a better word here) my instructor didn't use those. I really hate spending tons of money on books and I like keeping the ones solely related to my field like this one

Peace of Heart

This is a 30 days with a great spiritual teacher, Francis of Assisi. It starts out with My Day Begins, then All Through Your Day, and finishes with As Your Day Is Ending.

My Day Begins: set aside a quiet moment in a quiet place to read the meditation suggested for the day. The passage is short. It has been carefully selected to give a spiritual focus, a spiritual center to your whole day.

All Through Your Day: you will find a single sentence which we call a mantra, a word borrowed from the Hindu tradition. This phase is meant as a companion for your spirit as it moves through a busy day.

As Your Day Is Ending: This is a time for letting go of the day. Find a quiet place and quiet your spirit. Breathe deeply. Inhale, exhale-slowly and deliberately again and again until you feel your body let go of its tension. Now read the evening prayer slowly, phrase by phrase. In this way, a simple evening prayer gathers together the spiritual character of the day that is now ending as it began--in the presence of God. It is a time for summary and closure. Invite God to embrace you with love and to protect you through the night. Sleep well.

I have deeped my prayer and found this book to be a great guide for me to work with in praying. Francis of Assisi is one of my favorite Saints and a great spiritual teacher. I feel very blessed having this book. Everyone who wants to learn how to pray should buy this.

a thoughtful book

This whole series of books is wonderful -- easily read and worth lingering over a second time. The thoughts are concise and not ponderous. They speak to heart of anyone who has doubts, fears, concerns, worries and joys and happiness --- so that does not let anyone out!! There are also prayers which are meant for many people in many situations. I would highly recommend this entire series of books.
