Audio quality is bad. Content is great though.

I might have made a mistake, I was after 'Abundance' from the same author, and this is 'Get Abundance'. Content is awesome, but the audio quality is nothing like the Audible recordings I am used to. This is like they've used a cheap PC microphone, I am not kidding you. I am halfway the 'book' but might return this one ... and try the 'Abundance' release instead.

She has taught and developed online science courses at Lake Superior College since 2001. She has also developed field studies courses for Lake Superior College and provided environmental outreach education about Lake Superior on board the University of Wisconsin, Superior's research vessel, the LL Smith Jr. Her interests include making pottery and photography.

Excellent text

This book greatly enhanced my student's comprehensive understanding of women's biology. The text is well written and is a good source of general Anatomy and Physiology as well as information specific to women's bodies, and information is meticulously well documented. The authors present multiple aspects on each subject, including historical, cultural and societal perspectives offset in boxes surrounding the text. This adds interest and provides current research and thinking on topics relevant to women. The chapters are well organized and lucid, with objectives at the beginning of the chapters and review questions at the end. Both are great tools for review.
If you are teaching a class on women's health or biology, this text should be included in your curriculum.

horrible. pass this one, stick with the Spin cover article

I've read a lot of biographies in my day, a number of which being music related. Up until today, the worst I've ever read was Mick Middles' excuse of a bio about The Smiths back when they were still a band. And then I came across John Mendelssohn's "Gigantic"and I'm pondering how best to discard this worthless excuse for a tome without violating several laws.

This book is poorly researched, needlessly snarky, and lacks a decent sense of humor that the author was hoping to put across. Naturally, the lack of research is really the most important aspect: a good biography is well-researched; a good band biography will go into some depth about each member of the band and their background. Was it really to hard to include how Kim's dad wanted to learn guitar but when he saw his daughter play he gave up?

Half the book is filled with chapters of fiction, and after reading the first of these chapters, about a teenage girl who is unattractive but wholy attracted to using the word "like" as much as possible, I gave up and skipped these chapters. Much like I gave up on the book with only a handful of chapters to go.

One word: unnecessary. This is an unnecessary book that's only benefit is looking at the cool pictures to keep yourself from throwing it upon a fire. Omnibus Press should be wholly ashamed to have put an unattributed quote touting the book as "the most in-depth accoun of the Pixies carrer ever published." [...]
I wonder if my local library would take this as a donation. Probably not.

Gigantic waste of time

All the reviews here have made may day complete. I too have spent a saturday of my life trawling through this beautifully packaged sack of garbage. And I too resent having spent time on it, if I lived in the States maybe I could sue this guy for mental hardship and the negative effect his book has had on my life. My wife too has had too listen to me rant and explode at the end of every chapter. Fortunately we are still in a honeymoon period and she find sthis cute. It could have sent a less harmonious couple to the divorce court. Everything everybody has brought up is true: It IS the worst music bio you've ever read. The writing style is lazy, repetetive and annoying....the constant jokes about Frank putting on weight are pointles, childish and uncalled for...e.g. "Charles played a couple of shows around thanksgiving this year, presumably filled up with turkey, pumpkin pie and all the trimmings". It is pitifully under-researched and the author seems to actually hate the subject he's writing about. If you have bought it, then you have every right to take it back and demand your money back (under English law goods must be "fit for the purpose for which they are sold"....well this paper isn't anywhere near absorbant enough to wipe your arse on, and you aren't going to get anywhere reading the damn thing)

The only good point is it is short. Like most book nerds I can't admit defeat and put a book down once I've started it...thank god it's only 200 pages. I was supposed to strip the wallpaper off the spare room today. I genuinely wish I'd done that instead. I cleaned the rabbit out this afternoon, in between reading, and I have to say that Arnold (a chocolate coloured dwarf lop) had produced a great deal more of worth than the author has.

enough! At least this review has given me chance to vent steam and I must thank Amazon for this opportunity, like-minded readers can come here and find solace....perhaps we could hold support meetings and have annual competitions to find better and more inventive ways of saying the plain truth: this book sucks so hard that James Dyson must be green with envy.

A Gigantic Failure.

This tripe is a blog shoddily dressed up as a book. The Pixies wanted nothing to do with this project, wisely denying this guy so much as an interview. Undeterred, he decided to proceed with recycled information (most of which even the casual fan can pick up on their own through various Pixies websites) and a perplexing, unnecessary, and bad story ostensibly about some Pixies fan or other. I'll generously say that the author may have been trying a "Depeche Mode: 101" approach in which fans are chronicled alongside a band. Unfortunately, "Vicky's [Boring and Pointless] Story" comes off as something the author was working on before he shamefully cashed in on the Pixies reunion, and threw into the mix with a few Pixies references once he realized he had scarcely 100 pages on the actual band.

Notably missing is any useful information concerning the recent Pixies reunion. Painfully present are countless hack-critic discussions of the band's work.

Do not buy this book. Do not let someone give you this book. If you end up with a copy in your hands, do yourself a massive favor and immediately use it as kindling.

A wonderful book with beautiful pearls of wisdom that sink in you...with every word ringing in deep down in your heart and head!

Shining with clarity and practicality it gives you tremedous freedom to understand and re-estabish your true freedom beyond guilts, fears, worries and desires!

The meditation techniques prescribed in the book work like magic, especially try the Manipuraka mediataion if you are a chronic worrier or the swadhistana chakra meditation to overcome fears.

You can find out for yourself ..which emotion blocks you from enjoying your life in totality and follow the meditation techinque that unblocks that chakra. It really work!

This book and the concepts and practices behind it have healed me physically, mentally and spiritually like nothing else. After reading thousands of books that gave only understandings this one book removed so many unnecessary sufferings in my life that it is difficult to remember a time when I was not in a state of peaceful, intelligent, and creative bliss. Healing is a practice of making whole not by adding more unnecessary concepts but by removing all the limiting ailments, thoughts, and conditions in this life that keep us from our divine destiny to live as fully actualized spiritual beings. This book was truly a gateway for me to a more divine and creative life that adds real value to the lives of others. The story is good, not great, clean as opposed to so, many novels today. I would not be ashamed for my children to pick up the book and read any page. Would I read the book again? Probably not.

About the Author
Nancy Lee Cecil, Ph.D., has had a rich and varied background in education as an elementary school teacher and a literacy specialist in New York; urban Savannah, Georgia; and in the public schools in the U.S. Virgin Islands. She is especially attuned to the needs of linguistically and culturally diverse children. She received her doctorate from the University of Buffalo and teaches in the Department of Teacher Education at California State University. She has written seventeen books on literacy and has received the Teacher's Choice award for her book For the Love of Language: Poetry for All Learners. Cecil has published articles in many literacy journals, including The Reading Teacher. She speaks about literacy to groups of educators on local, national, and international levels. She lives with her husband in Carmichael, California, with two cats and a dog; there she enjoys reading, traveling, and hiking, and is involved in the issues of foster care youth.

Joan P. Gipe, Ph.D., has spent many years working with learners of all ages: in Kentucky as a reading specialist; in Indiana as a fifth-grade teacher; and in several university contexts as faculty, supervisor of student teachers, department chairperson, coordinator for teaching enhancement, university/school liaison for professional development schools, coordinator of field-based teacher education cohorts, and guide to doctoral students through their degree requirements. She received her doctorate, as well as a Distinguished Education Alumni Award, from Purdue University. She is Research Professor Emeritus from the University of New Orleans where she received numerous teaching awards, and is also Lecturer Emeritus from California State University, Sacramento. She mentors doctoral students for Walden University's online Ed.D. Program in Teacher Leadership. She has engaged in research related to developing meaning vocabulary, assisting readers who struggle, and also preparing teachers through field-based programs. Her articles in publications such as The Reading Teacher, Reading Research Quarterly, and the Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy share with the professional community what she has learned throughout her career. Her textbook Multiple Paths to Literacy: Assessment and Differentiated Instruction for Diverse Learners, K-12 is in its eighth edition. She lives in the heart of Sonoma County's Wine Country, in California, and enjoys tutoring fifth grade students in language arts and math.

Marcy E. Merrill, PhD, before becoming a literacy professor at California State University,Sacramento, was a teacher and reading specialist in Charlottesville, Virginia, city schools; before that she taught public school in both Georgia and Vermont. She has taught students in many grades and at many instructional levels. Merrill received her doctorate in reading from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, following her undergraduate work in English and education at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Currently, she works with pre-service teachers in the areas of English methods and academic language or reading across content areas, and with masters students in language and literacy. She has written several publications, and contributed to the Expository Reading and Writing Course curriculum used by California teachers statewide, and has presented at literacy conferences at state, national, and international levels. Merrill received the Community Service Award and the University Service Award from CSUS. Her research interests include content literacy, writing assessment, expository reading and writing, writing and technology, and digital literacy. She has two wonderful daughters who are currently in middle school.
