Olt is a 60s classic of the same caliber as Trout Fishing in America, Slaughterhouse-Five and The Crying of Lot 49. It is witty, sensual, caleidoscopic, melancholy and absolutely delightful. Nuf sed.

Kenneth Gangemi has done something quite brilliant with this book. So brilliant, I'm not even sure what I just read. The narrator moves around a city, but the reader only moves around inside the narrator's head. Themes emerge and feelings emerge--for the reader, though, not the narrator. The narrator doesn't seem to feel much of anything. We don't need to be told how the narrator feels because we can feel it for him. We are him for 55 pages. Demands to be read again.

UPDATE: Read it again on Christmas day. Damn. Damn good. Have to get my hands on more Gangemi. "The Volcanoes from Puebla" is probably next.

Excellent but many editing ommissions

An exceptional book, and no one can dispute the talent or creativity of the author, Jean-Pierre Wybauw. The book offers Water Activity (Aw) levels for all recipes, useful for shelf life guidelines on finished product. There is a detailed discussion on ingredients. The book starts by offering recipe sections grouped by shelf life, but oddly this is abandoned in some areas, which can lead to frustration when left with an Aw value but no prediction on how long the confection will last..

His editors however did him a disservice, as many recipes are missing information (example: Lavender recipe on page 333 which is in the section containing alcohol and says it contains alcohol, in fact makes no mention of alcohol). Other recipes omit steps (such as straining when having infused liquid with finely ground solids, ie:coffee). This is sometimes apparent after careful reading and rereading if one has experience in working with chocolate.

All of the chocolates are beautifully decorated, many in unique manners not readily apparent, but sadly how the decoration is achieved is often not illuminated, leaving one frustrated . It is because of these editorial inconsistencies and omissions that I have not given the text the five stars it would otherwise deserve.

If you are used to a detailed explanation and clearly vetted/proofed text, Greweling's Chocolates and Confections may serve you much better. It will give you a foundation from which you can then use the outstanding information contained in Mr. Wybauw's text.

Very good starter book for Wedding Photography

Very Good follow up for 2nd edition. I read the first edition and this is a very good book as well.
Who is this book for. If you have not done a Wedding or meet with a couple please pick up this book and read it from cover to cover.
You can avoid some costly mistake. Wedding Photography is a BUSINESS and you need to get off on the right foundation.

There are 13 chapters and well worth your time. Don't go into this book just being a gear head. The introduction and Chapters 1 and 2 are very very important. Damon gives you Wedding Photography Strategy which includes information on the taking a narrative approach to wedding day coverage. The Wedding Consultation, what you need to discuss and etc. The rest of the book is walking thru the other aspects of wedding photography.

Good book for the beginner

This is a great book which I think would be especially helpful to the student who is seeking a wedding photography career. He outlines all the aspects of the wedding day including a section on other faith ceremonies such as Hindu ceremony which differs significantly from what most people are used to. He also shares with us his training and an error he made when he started out but more importantly he tells us how we can recover if we realize we've made a mistake.

Another winner!

This book was released today and I just spent three hours reading it to my seven year old son. We actually re-read the entire series, which we own, in anticipation of this sequel, and finished book 10 last night before starting this one tonight.

If you are a fan of Captain Underpants then this book is a sure bet. In fact, I think it may be his best work yet in terms of plot development and amusing moments. My son laughed out loud SO many times and I have to admit I did, too!

There was a possible discrepancy between this book and the previous one. In the previous book, the time travel was stated as 30 years in the future (and the adult George and Harold were 39 3/4 and 40yo respectively) but in this book it was stated repeatedly as being forty years in the future. It did not seem to be a plot development issue, just a mistake. I went back and reread it to try to figure it out but I was left a little confused. If I am incorrect, please comment!

In any case, the book was amazing, and my son never would have noticed the 30years/40years thing on his own! Thanks Dav for another really funny, well put together book that encourages kids to be kids, as obnoxious and as loud and with all the potty humor that it entails. You outdid yourself on the Uranus jokes in this one, though the potty song in the last one was pretty hilarious to my seven year old, too. I am always amused at seeing him so amused. :) you keep making them and we will keep buying them, as we read them repeatedly. This one is no exception, and in fact I think it is one of your best. Thank you!

Good Formula, But I Couldn't Get Into It

First the good. I think that this type of book is great for getting kids interested in reading "chapter books". The illustrations are funny-looking (that's good), the story is lighthearted, and there are built-in amusements (two frame crude animations, for lack of a better term). So we have a great formula here.

But here's where it falls short of its potential:

I loved Mad Magazine as a kid. It was zany but easy to understand and follow. This book is zany, but difficult to follow. Also there is a good amount of humor that I would not expect children to understand. For example, the name Miss Anthrope. A kid would think it was just a meaningless zany name. One who understands the "punny" name would probably not find it funny. I found it mildly funny. There is also adult humor (no, not that kind). That is to say, humor that only an adult *might* find funny, simply because they can understand the zaniness. I'm referring specifically to such things as the mention of biological concepts (lipids, RNA, etc.) that would likely be understood only by advanced high school students or college students taking introductory biology classes. As a kid, I could appreciate zaniness only when I understood it. I still don't laugh at quantum mechanics jokes.

In addition to things that go over a kid's head, there is the story itself. Now this is a toss up. Some kids might like stories that are just jam packed with off the wall zaniness. I don't. Even as a kid, I would enjoy it much better if the story relied more on funny situations for laughs.

This style of book has great potential. I think funny illustrations of funny situations would knock the ball out of the park.

While the book in its current form, misses the mark for me, if you are the type of person who likes my general description of the contents of the book, by all means, buy a copy to "test it out". Taste in humor is sometimes like taste in music - unexplainable from one person to the next.

Almost Awesome

Curves for an Alpha Wolf is a short story, not novella or a novellete or even a serial. It's a good little short-story, but that's all it is. Do not pick this up thinking you'll be getting a full novel. While this short-story has a few faults, I'd hate to get to see it slammed for not being a novel or a novella. So author, please put in your blurb information about the length, so that readers fully understand what product they're buying.

That aside, there is a lot I liked about this little short-story.

1. The Prose

So many PNR BBW's are frankly lackluster on the prose end of things. They come across as laughable and just bad. The actual writing in Curves for the Alpha Wolf, was really really enjoyable. While there were the obligatory cliche turns of phrase that made me roll my eyes, they were made better by the clean execution of genre tropes. The MC's voice in particular was a stand-out. While, again, she fell into all the cliche's -- a BBW insecure about her weight-- they were made believable by the voice.

2. The Mythology
I loved the idea that she turned into her dog, because that's who she was close to. I also loved the scene where her alpha picked her up from the pound. I loved the "alpha growl".

3. Jason
I like how Jason took charge and while he never forced the issue, he got pretty close. That might not be to everyone's taste but it was to mine for sure.

That said this short story had some pretty shoddy pacing. The whole story feels like the final scene of the novel, with the author telling us about all the previous chapters that happened before instead of showing us. In the end this lead to emotional beats falling flat and the whole thing feeling very rushed.

That said it was really really hot, and I enjoyed it.

Not worth the price

Here is a synopsis (spoiler alert coming) to save you from buying this book. The heroine is a member of a pack. As she hasn't changed into a wolf (and has beef with the head lady wolf), she is cast out of the pack to live as human. When she changes, she changes into a dog and not a wolf because she is closer to her dog that the pack. She has always had a crush on the alpha who has a crush on her. To keep her human, the alpha forces her (coerces her?) to sleep with him. That's it. Save the money and buy something else.

Too short!

now here is an author in which I wouldn't mind paying more for book. this was too short for me. 30 min tops. but it was really really good. I don't think ill purchase anything else from ms. knox unless she gives more details in her stories. the alpha goes for his mate who is a dog and mates with her. she turns into werewolf and when she turned she was of course attacked by another jealous bitch whom she kills and they live happily ever after.
